The Isle of Capri

imageToday’s itinerary took me to the Isle of Capri.  Another mountain view of rows of colorful buildings that seem to be stacked one on top of another with narrow winding streets very similar to Positano.

image But before the day started, my continental Italian breakfast was brought out to my terrace.  So silly was I to have worried about breaking my fast on just coffee and bread when I realized how satisfied I was with this simply meal.  Possibly feeling content with my breakfast had to do with my overall relaxed feeling, the warm morning breeze and magnificent view.  There was no need to do yoga this morning, I was already starting my day in perfect harmony.

I headed down to the beach, confident on my path now not to get lost, to meet up with the other women on my tour and join them on our boat ride to Capri.  Capitano Fabio…yes Fabio…how perfect… he welcomed us aboard and off we went.

Fabio took us close to a 3 hour ride, stopping to show us up the red coral near the caves and allowing time for a swim.  The weather was beautiful, but for a Florida girl, the water was too cold for me, so I enjoyed relaxing in the sun on the boat.

We were unable to tour the Blue Grotto, the “eighth wonder of the world” due to choppy waves.  I’m not sure I would have opted for that anyways as the boat to enter the cave needed to be extremely small and claustrophobia and I don’t get along.

While the other women had purchased a tour of the island, I had not and was just going to stroll around myself, have lunch, shop and read.  Fortunately for me…and unfortunately for one of the ladies on the boat that got a bit seasick, she and another woman decided not to go on the tour, and instead stroll around the me!

image It really could not have been a better day.  We walked a lot, up winding streets and back down side steps. We shopped, had lunch, tasted lemon chocolates, lemon oil, Limoncello filled candies, chocolate covered lemon rinds and, of course, sips of Limoncello!

Back on the boat, Fabio offered us cut melon and his homemade Limoncello.  I find that the Limoncello here doesn’t have that sugary, sticky taste that I have had back home. It’s more lemony and lighter, though still a few of the women didn’t like it…more for me, I say!

We had dinner as the sun was setting. We sat outdoors along the road, always having the beautiful view.  I still feel that this is all a dream, so please don’t wake me. Buona notte, xxox

I love being in the kitchen. Early mornings, soft music, a hot espresso. Easing into the preparation of delicious meals. Glancing through cookbooks, gathering inspiration and planning my day. I look forward to the cycles of the seasons, the pleasures of tasting and savoring and sharing this with those dear to me. Weekends are special to me as my week days are often rushed, but still I create the ambiance, light the candles, set the table and uncork the wine.
